# Introduction

> The universal CLI for installing motion-first components from any shadcn-compatible registry

**`@soralabs/cli`** is a standalone CLI tool for installing components from any [shadcn](https://ui.shadcn.com)-compatible registry into your project.

It defaults to the [Sora UI](https://ui.soralabs.studio) motion registry, skipping the extra step of registering scopes — while retaining universal compatibility with any remote registry, local file, or GitHub reference.

## Why Sora CLI?

* **Motion & AI Ready**: Built to serve the Sora UI ecosystem with first-class animation support (`framer-motion`, `gsap`, Motion) and `prefers-reduced-motion` compliance.
* **Universal Component Specifiers**: Install not just by name, but via direct JSON URLs, GitHub repos (`owner/repo/item`), or scoped namespaces (`@magicui/item`).
* **Base Primitives Fallback**: Automatically checks the Sora UI registry first; if a bare name is not found (e.g. `button`, `dialog`), it transparently falls back to `ui.shadcn.com` using your project's configured style.
* **Intelligent Dependency Resolution**: Flattens nested registry dependencies and installs npm packages automatically using your detected package manager (`bun`, `pnpm`, `yarn`, or `npm`).
* **Drift Detection**: Use `diff` to inspect changes upstream before upgrading local code.
* **Environment Diagnostics**: Built-in `doctor` diagnoses missing Tailwind configurations, Node.js version mismatches, and lockfile issues.
