# search

> Search for components by keyword, title, description, or type

The `search` command queries the registry catalog and filters components by keyword across their name, title, and description, or by component type.

## Usage

```bash theme={null}
npx @soralabs/cli search [query] [options]
```

Alias: `sora find`

## Examples

```bash theme={null}
# Search by keyword
npx @soralabs/cli search text

# Search with explicit query flag
npx @soralabs/cli search -q animation

# Filter by component type (ui, hook, etc.)
npx @soralabs/cli search --type hook

# Combine keyword search with type filtering
npx @soralabs/cli search effect --type ui

# Limit results
npx @soralabs/cli search -l 5

# Output as raw JSON for scripting
npx @soralabs/cli search text --json
```

## Options

### `-q, --query <string>`

The search keyword to match against component names, titles, and descriptions. Can also be passed directly as a positional argument.

```bash theme={null}
npx @soralabs/cli search -q button
```

### `-t, --type <string>`

Filters results by registry item type (e.g. `ui`, `hook`, or full `registry:ui`).

```bash theme={null}
npx @soralabs/cli search --type hook
```

### `-l, --limit <number>`

Maximum number of search results to display (defaults to `20`).

```bash theme={null}
npx @soralabs/cli search text --limit 10
```

### `--registry <name|url>`

Queries a specific registry instead of the default `ui` registry.

```bash theme={null}
npx @soralabs/cli search card --registry https://any-shadcn-registry.com
```

### `--json`

Outputs the matched components in JSON format, ideal for piping into `jq` or custom scripts.

```bash theme={null}
npx @soralabs/cli search text --json
```

Example JSON output structure:

```json theme={null}
[
  {
    "name": "text-effect",
    "title": "Text Effect",
    "description": "Smooth interactive text animation effect.",
    "type": "registry:ui"
  }
]
```
